Aanschaf nieuwe laboratorium apparatuur

In 2019 is er gestart met de nieuwbouw van een laboratorium, nu is de tijd aangebroken om ook de apparatuur te gaan vervangen zodat betere zorg geleverd kan gaan worden.

De huidige covid19 pandemie maakt het heel duidelijk dat de gezondheidszorg wereldwijd goede laboratoria nodig heeft. Voor de betrokken patiënten is een negatieve COVID test vaak een flinke opluchting en soms zelfs als een geschenk uit de hemel. Positieve tests bevestigen vermoedens en betekenen ziekte, quarantaine en meestal een flinke herstelperiode. Alle landen leunen sterk op de COVID-uitslagen om vervolgens eventuele versoepelingen door te kunnen voeren. De situatie in Tanzania kent vele onzekerheden. Testen op COVID is niet of nauwelijks mogelijk. Het ontbreken van een functionele structuur om overal eenvoudige zorg te leveren maakt dat de prioriteiten anders liggen dan bijvoorbeeld in Europa. 

De meest basale laboratorium tests zijn niet overal beschikbaar. In Kabanga hospital is het relatief simpele bloedonderzoek naar bijvoorbeeld de functie van de lever en nieren niet of nauwelijks mogelijk. Ook is het eenvoudige bepalen van de zoutbalans en ernst van een infectie niet beschikbaar. De door Tweega medica gepositioneerde tropenartsen hebben een duidelijke wens voor een beter uitgerust laboratorium geuit. Dergelijke bepalingen zouden een belangrijke stap vooruit zijn in de dagelijkse zorg van patiënten. The current pandemic makes it very clear that healthcare needs good laboratories. For the affected patients, a negative COVID test is often a great relief and sometimes even like a godsend. Positive tests confirm suspicions and mean illness, quarantine and usually a long recovery period. All countries rely heavily on the COVID results in order to subsequently be able to drop restrictions. The situation in Tanzania is full of uncertainties. Testing for COVID is not or hardly possible. The lack of a functional structure to provide simple care everywhere means that the priorities are different than in Europe, for example.

The most basic laboratory tests are not available everywhere. In Kabanga hospital, relatively simple blood tests, for example on the function of the liver and kidneys, are not possible. Also, simple determination of the salt balance and severity of infection is not available.
